Wow, I was getting tired of that old journal.
A few things have changed since January. I never did get back to Kingdom Hearts, so I didn't lose any more time to that. However, two friends bought me new Pokémon games, so I've managed to lose 120 hours down that rabbit hole, and I still have all of Alpha Sapphire left. Also, the sudden release of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ has done me no favors.
On a better note, I finally decided it was time to quit wishing I could draw and start learning to draw. I haven't found very much time to put into it yet, but already I've seen improvement. And now I've got a drawing tablet on the way, so that's all really exciting in an incredibly surreal way.
Oh, and my sister's been slowly moving in as her nine year relationship crumbles. So that's thrown my life into chaos quite a bit.
Of course, plenty has stayed the same, too. I honestly have no idea what happened to the motivation I had going for Lake Hylia. I wish I could say I'm at least making slow progress, but I don't think I can count theoretical progress as I plan things out in my head. I think about it all the time, but even when I'm not wrapped up in Pokémon or something, my time keeps getting diverted in other directions (for example, finally giving in to my friends and watching all of Steven Universe together, which I can't say I regret at all).
And now, this month has already gotten away from me, with 18 nights (14 remaining) that I don't get to spend at home. Pretty much the best motivation killer for working on a map is having to do it on one 15" screen instead of two 22" screens. I can do it, but it's not as easy, especially on a map this big. Maybe I've just gotten spoiled, but being able to keep a reference on that second monitor has been a massive help to me as I've moved on to bigger and harder maps.
There's some good news, though. I'm so fed up with my lack of progress on my project, I've pretty much gotten to the point of annoying myself back to work. Also, while I really dislike working on backgrounds on my laptop, character sprites are much more doable, so hopefully I'll have the Smash DLC fighters finished up soon.
As for Lake Hylia, I've got a week at home coming up in the middle of my time away. And while I'm away, I might be able to hook a TV to my laptop, which would be a massive help on Lake Hylia. No guarantees on that one, though. My laptop's 10 years old, so HDMI is not an option there. I kind of have to hope for a VGA hookup. Worst case, I'm hoping that things will start to look up once I get past this month.
I suppose what I'm taking entirely too much of a journal to ramble out is that I'm sort of at one of those points again where I feel like I need to make a change, and that always seems to lead to some form of artwork. So I guess let's see how long I can keep that going for, and if I can manage to balance spriting with learning to draw. It's been ten years since I first started this Ocarina of Time project. Let's see if I can finally get closer to finishing it.
